Spoonies Unite: A Support Space for Chronically Ill Folks

What is a "Spoonie"?

The term 'Spoonie' is embraced by many chronically ill individuals as a key part of their identity, representing their lived experience with chronic illness. In her blog post, 'The Spoon Theory,' Christine Miserandino introduced 'spoons' as a metaphor for the fluctuating energy levels and abilities that those with chronic illness experience each day. It illustrates how daily tasks—like bathing, cleaning, and commuting—can quickly deplete the already limited energy available.

About the Support Groups

This is a safe and affirming community where Spoonies can find mutual support. Here, we share our lived experiences navigating the challenges of chronic health conditions and the ableist social structures that impact our mental and emotional well-being. In community, we cultivate mindfulness and self-compassion practices that help us relate to our bodies with greater gentleness and care.

  • 60 minutes of group support and discussion

  • 15 minutes of guided somatic mindfulness

I ask for at least a 6-session commitment, with the option to continue longer.
